The Church

Tonight I sit with my thoughts.
Diesel and Annie share a bed by the fire place, while the fish tank trickles in the background.
B is gone 30+ days for training.

We have been in Fort Riley for literally 4 months. What a whirlwind this has been. Through these four months I have started attending a bible study over the book of Acts. This last week we dwelt on the idea of rest and church.
How can the church be a place of rest?

My response?

It's not.

As a pastor's wife and now chaplain's wife, Sundays and Church/Chapel equal work, stress, and business - Pressures... perceptions... and perfection. Then God said, "Wait, my daughter. Sunday's aren't Church."
The people.
The people are Church.

Church is... going over to someone's house and the laughing over fire alarms going off.

Church is... calling a friend to ask for encouragement.

Church is... sending a text saying, "thinking of you."

Church is... inviting people into your space/life even when it's not Pinterest-Perfect.

Church is... humility.

Church is... authenticity.

Church is... us.

The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. But I(Jesus) have come to give you life and life to the fullest. -John 10:10

Can we live our life to the fullest that Jesus meant for us to receive, if we must first achieve perfection?

I believe there is rest in authenticity.

I'm not perfect.
I will never be perfect.
And that is perfect.

May we reach for community and, in doing so, the Church.

May we accept ourselves so that we can indeed welcome others into our space.

May Holy Spirit guide us into a place of,
"Yes, Lord."
